I have been a keen record collector for over 20 years, with a particular fondness for drum ‘n’ bass, and the DIY ethos of underground music remains influential to how I approach my work. Being a Dartmoor lad, DJ Fingle is basically a nod to a much loved area of the River Teign near to where I grew up, plus it’s taken from the old English word ‘fang’ (meaning ‘to catch’) which is a reference to catching fish, and I like how this relates to DJs crate-digging for records in the hope of finding something unique beneath the surface. I also love the idea of a record being transformed into a temporal component, forming an interchangeable part of an instrument, creating something new and unique via the continuous DJ mix.
Below are three drum ‘n’ bass mixes (all vinyl) and a digital set composed of ambient, drone and dub techno. Each mix references some favourite spots I like to go walking with the camera.
