Abstracts and the Figure (2007-2012)

This album kicks off with a piece I created while studying an MA in London, 2007, then follows a path moving on from abstraction towards introducing a more figurative element into my work.  The figure pieces began in two studios I shared in Exeter, 2008-2009, (largely sustained through working the night shift in a care home for adults with autism and learning disabilities) and continued later in my Tudor Street studio, which I ran while working a job in mental health.  The works in here draw influence in particular from Jung’s idea of the numinous, alongside modernist painters from Matisse and Kandinsky through to the Abstract Expressionists.
